First of all let me say welcome to my new log. It is titled a 100K journey for tourettes for a reason. My son was diagnosed about 2 months ago with tourettes. We have had our world changed. We were a typical family raising a child in school and trying to manage through life's basic daily needs. My son was having some serious issues with sneezing over 1000+ times in one day. We are not talking about a normal sneeze, we are talking about sneezes that would make your head spin. When he would get through, he would always tell us about how much his body would hurt. Well I guess so since you are putting the body through so much stress it has to be tired.
Let me back up now that you know what we are dealing with. We think that he started having his "tics", that is what you call any uncontrollable involuntary muscle movement, way back in the early days of his school life. He use to stand up on stage doing choir performance or any stage performance and blink his eyes over and over. Sometimes it was to a point to which it even took over some of his head movements. We always thought it was that the lights were too bright or he was having issues with allergies bothering his eyes. He went through spells of having to clear his throat over and over like he had something almost chocking him. He would have to keep a cup of water on his desk at school to drink all day when this happened. Once again we thought it was because of allergies.
We went through numerous testing to see what he was allergic to and trying to avoid those things. Someone finally told us to get a CT of his head to check and see if it was a deep sinus infection. Well, it wasn't. We then went to an ENT specialist and he said everything was clear. He said I know what it is but you need to go to a neurologist cause I can not officially tell you. We rushed over to the one that was recommended to us and within a matter of minutes, our would would now be changed. He said your son has Tourettes.
My name is Tim and I am a runner when I am not a work. I have completed over 26 marathons of which 3 of them were ultra-marathons which consisted of 31 and 33 miles. I will be trying to raise awareness and money for the official tourette's foundation by running in my 1st ever 100K ( 62 miles ) in January 2016. I will be sending out letters to try and raise money for the foundation by accepting pledges of hope in the form of cash or checks. I will be asking for people to either pledge a fixed amount or if they want to they can pledge per mile that I run. I have set the bar high for that is an amount of miles that I have not encountered. I will be putting my body to the limit that day in order to try and help those with this terrible and unstoppable disease. Who know I might just decide to keep going after I hit the 100K mark. Please follow our journey as I post updates about Austin and my running journal.
Once again thank you for your prayers and support. Until later.......
